CRYPTOCURRENCY holds a great share of the limelight.
We have heard about or read stories of those who made it big and on the flip side those who lost money.
We know of people who advise us to stay invested and those who warn us to keep away.
Whose advice should we heed?
Even the professional investment fraternity have differing views. There are bulge bracket investment banks that are bullish and there are those that are bearish.
In all fairness, cryptocurrency – or crypto as it is more popularly known – is still a relatively new asset class so naturally, various misconceptions surround it.
And like all investments, they always come with risks and how one positions one’s investments depends on his/her own risk appetite.
Realising the need to bridge the gap of educating retail investors and the Malaysian public on crypto, Luno has embarked on a journey to educate the masses on the asset class.
Move with Luno
Luno is a leading digital asset exchange (DAX) regulated by the Securities Commission that processes more than RM1bil of transactions annually from more than 700,000 investors on its platform.
It has recently launched the Move With Luno campaign which aims to empower Malaysians to build a stronger understanding of digital assets and investing as part of the company’s financial literacy initiative to dispel common misconceptions about cryptocurrencies.
Luno has introduced a slew of initiatives under this campaign, such as making its app available in Bahasa Melayu to localise and reach out to a wider spectrum of investors – encouraging them to take their first steps in crypto investing.
The campaign will run across various offline and online touch points including on-ground educational tours and public engagements to promote understanding of digital assets and investing.
It is also pledging more local content to further the local crypto learning journey, aimed at empowering Malaysians to build a stronger understanding of digital assets and investing as part of financial literacy.
This involves the localising of Luno Academy – an online educational programme specifically designed for those who are keen to dive deeper into crypto trading. This is a one-month programme with a series of five learning sessions conducted online by Luno and guest speakers.
Luno intends to use education to dispel common misconceptions around cryptocurrencies. The company is dedicated to making crypto-related content easier to digest and available to the masses – ensuring that they first understand the basics.
Luno believes it is important for Malaysians to be aware of market movements to make informed decisions and its role is to help them reap the benefits of investing in crypto.
The cryptocurrency market has undergone a major price correction since late last year due to global macroeconomic conditions with the flagship token Bitcoin (BTC) currently trading at the US$20,000 range. The total capitalisation of the entire cryptocurrency market is at about US$960bil.
Financial wellbeing
Luno Malaysia country manager Aaron Tang says supporting financial literacy has always been at the heart of what Luno aspired to do for Malaysians.
“Investing in cryptocurrencies is more than just purchasing digital assets. It is part of a larger financial wellbeing plan for all Malaysians.
“Regardless of one’s financial goals – be it purchasing a home, saving up for education or even for retirement – Luno is there with you through every step of your financial fitness journey.
“We look to further reduce the digital divide, making cryptocurrency investing accessible for all,” says Tang.
Luno recently appointed national athletes Olympic diver Datuk Pandelela Rinong and national footballer Zaquan Adha to be their brand ambassadors.
The duo will share with potential investors their personal finance journeys and how they have incorporated Luno into their investment plans.
All these are part of the Move with Luno campaign, which seeks to inspire Malaysians to progress on their personal finance journeys in attaining financial fitness.
As the subject matter of crypto is still in its infancy, Luno strongly believes that Malaysians must prepare for a future with digital assets to be better equipped in wealth management.
Digital asset options
Beyond this, Luno has expanded its range of investible digital assets to nine, with the newest coins being Cardano (ADA) and Solana (SOL), following the addition of Chainlink (LINK) and Uniswap (UNI) earlier this year.
This makes Luno a regulated digital assets exchange platform with the largest coin offering, with other tradable coins on Luno including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Ripple (XRP) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

Investing in cryptocurrency is high risk and may result in loss of capital as the value can fluctuate. Luno recommends that individuals consult with a licensed financial planner on investment in cryptocurrency.
The Securities Commission Malaysia’s approval of the listing of digital assets on Luno does not amount to nor indicate that the SC has recommended nor endorsed the product or service.
