Hit NFT collectibles CyberKongz is making it easier to randomize in-game features in their upcoming game “Play & Kollect”. To make this possible, yesterday, CyberKongz announced its partnership with Chainlink to integrate the Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Polygon Mainnet. With this, CyberKongz will have access to Chainlink’s “tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness” to add randomized in-game features in their game.
“Chainlink VRF and Chainlink Price Feeds bring a new level of transparency to our game,” the CyberKongz team said in a press release. “We look forward to integrating more Chainlink services in the future to further enable an unparalleled gaming experience in our NFT jungle.”
CyberKongz x Chainlink VRF: All you need to know
In order to randomize in-game features in the Play & Kollect game, CyberKongz needs access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that users can independently audit. “However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent manipulation and ensure system integrity,” the team wrote.
For example, miners can exploit RNG solutions obtained from various blockchain data. On the other hand, off-chain RNG solutions “don’t provide users with definitive proof about the integrity of the process”.
Faced with this dilemma, CyberKongz eventually chose Chainlink VRF. Chainlink is a leading decentralized oracle network that power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. According to CyberKongz, Chainlink VRF is backed by “cutting-edge academic research” and the oracle network. Apart from this, it is secured through on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that can easily prove the integrity of random numbers given to smart contracts.
So, how exactly does this CyberKongz and Chainlink VRF integration work?
Actually, when a user makes a request using a pre-determined private key, Chainlink VRF combines block data that is still unknown at the time of the request. It then generates a random number as well as a cryptographic proof. Now, the CyberKongz smart contract will only accept a random number input if it has valid cryptographic proof. In addition, only a tamper-proof VRF process can generate cryptographic proof.
“This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that the CyberKongz game is provably fair and was not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the CyberKongz team,” CyberKongz added.
What is CyberKongz Play & Kollect?
CyberKongz’s upcoming game, Play & Kollect, is a fully on-chain jungle adventure game on the Polygon network. Apparently, the game will become a bridge between the current and future assets of the CyberKongz universe. Essentially, the team wanted to provide the members with a chance to collect new CyberKongz assets through the game.
The gameplay involves sending CyberKongz VX crews on a jungle adventure to collect Kongium Ore. Each crew consists of one to five members. The team members can then redeem the ore for rewards like the $BANANA prize pool and exclusive NFTs. Apart from Kongium, the team will also introduce new tokens called Lucky Charms.
